Bariatrics is the part of the medical community that deals with the treatment, causes, and prevention of obesity. Today obesity is linked to many ailments such as heart disease, diabetes, musculoskeletal problems, and certain types of cancer as well as increased mortality.
The widespread increase in obesity rates has spawned an increased number of products to help with those of us with larger body frames. Most of these products provide increased safety through heavier duty design and construction. Other items are designed to be easier to use, or make a daily task easier.
