Benefits of Ceramic Precision Ball Bearings
Their are several benefits for using ceramic bearings making them the ideal choice for those individuals engaged in wheelchair sports.
The ceramic balls inside the bearings generate less friction than steel bearings, making the caster wheel or caster fork easier to rotate
Less friction means less heat which will make the bearing last longer
Less friction and less heat equal more performance
8 x 22 mm 608RS Ceramic Precision Wheelchair or Scooter Bearing Fitment Notes
This bearing is commonly used on manual wheelchair caster wheels from all the major brands including Quickie, Top End (Invacare), TiLite, Colours, etc. This bearing also fits the majority of caster wheels sold by us that have a 5/16" inner diameter bearing including Primo, Frog Legs and Skyway. Your existing bearing should have one of these alpha numeric numbers stamped on the shield of the bearing: 608ZZ, 608Z, 608RS or 6082RS. This bearing is also used on skateboards, roller skates, and scooters.
General Wheelchair and Scooter Bearing Notes
Many bearings found on wheelchairs and scooters have a alpha numeric reference or just a numeric reference number stamped on the side of the bearing which refers to the type and size of the bearing. In most cases, that is all you need to purchase the correct bearing. For alpha numeric reference numbers ending in Z, ZZ, RS, or 2RS, they are all interchangeable (Z and ZZ refer to a metal outer side shield and RS and 2RS refer to a rubber outer side shield protecting the balls inside the bearing). If your bearing has no reference on it, you will have to measure. If the bearing reference appears worn off, you may be able to see it stamped on the other side.
